Stainless steel is an iron-based alloy which contains some percentage of chromium and nickel. To prevent the formation of rust, steels contain at least 11% content of chromium to form a protective passive film. This film can increase the corrosion resistance of steel. The more chromium is added, the stronger passive film is formed. If the passive film is destroyed, it will spontaneously re-form in the air. These properties cause stainless steel to become one of the materials with a wide range of usage.
